Under the Patronage of the Minister of Environment… Launching the “Al-Munther” Initiative to Enhance Awareness and Build Community Resilience
The Climate Action Network (CAN) Jordan, represented by Eng. Doaa Al-Derbani, President of the Network and founder of the “Al-Munther” initiative, launched the initiative’s booklets and a specialized training manual during an event held at the Royal Cultural Center, under the patronage of the Minister of Environment and in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.
This event comes within the framework of the national directives led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to strengthen climate action and build communities more capable of adapting to environmental challenges.
Al-Derbani emphasized that the initiative, which was introduced during COP29, aims to raise awareness about climate change and translate knowledge into practical practices that support community readiness. She noted that the initiative has been developed and integrated into various awareness programs and projects.
The event featured contributions from experts: Dr. Fadel Al-Zoubi, former Head of the FAO mission and an international expert in risk management, highlighted the importance of linking awareness to risk management. Mr. Jeremy Stone, Manager of the “Jahez” project at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), emphasized the importance of simplifying knowledge and linking it to early warning systems. Furthermore, Dr. Heba Al-Kharabsheh, Director of the International Center for Water, Environment and Energy Research at Al-Balqa Applied University, pointed to the role of such initiatives in building gradual and sustainable awareness.
The initiative focuses on targeting children, youth, and women through simplified educational materials, alongside a training manual that supports capacity building in the fields of climate change.
