“Jahez” Project Team Conducts Final Site Selection Field Visit in Irbid

As part of the activities of the “Jahez” project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and implemented under the leadership of the International Water Management Institute, represented by Mr. Jeremy Stone (IWMI – Project Lead: Jeremy Stone), in partnership with the UK Met Office and the Climate Action Network, represented by its President and Project Manager, Engineer Doa’a Al-Dirbani, a series of field and organizational procedures were carried out today in Irbid Governorate, within the jurisdiction of Greater Irbid Municipality, aiming to finalize the selection of the project’s intervention site.

The day’s activities on 9/12/2025 began with a coordination meeting with liaison officers from Greater Irbid Municipality, represented by Engineer Laila Youssef and Engineer Rabab Ali, during which the field tour route was determined and the priorities for candidate sites within the municipality’s jurisdiction were discussed.

Following the meeting, a detailed field visit was conducted to the top three sites identified as climate-vulnerable hotspots, aiming to verify their technical and field suitability based on comprehensive scientific assessments and broad community participation.

The visit was attended by:
• A team from Greater Irbid Municipality – represented by Engineer Rabab Ali
• A team from the International Water Management Institute – represented by Mr. Jeremy Stone (Project Lead: Jeremy Stone)
• A team from the Climate Action Network – represented by Engineer Doa’a Al-Dirbani (President of the Network and Project Manager), in addition to representatives of the project’s local partners
• Representatives from the local community for each visited site

At the conclusion of the tour, the project team held a wrap-up meeting to review field observations, analyze the results of the technical verification, and discuss the optimal path for selecting the final site.

The final site will be presented and announced during the official workshop planned for this week, which will bring together various partners: government institutions, Greater Irbid Municipality, civil society organizations, and representatives of the local community from Jordanians and refugees, to ensure the highest levels of transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.

An important step towards implementing an effective and sustainable intervention that contributes to enhancing community resilience in the face of climate risks within the Jahez project.
