Jahez Project Concludes Focused Group Discussion and Field Verification in Irbid

The Climate Action Network (CAN Jordan) held a Focused Group Discussion (FGD) on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Irbid Governorate, as part of the “Jahez” project activities. The project is led by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), in cooperation with Irbid Greater Municipality, Irbid Governorate, and local partners.

The session was opened by Eng. Doaa Aldeerbany, President of CAN and “Jahez” Project Manager, alongside Mr. Jeremy Stone, representative of the International Water Management Institute. The session was attended by representatives from the local community, official bodies, partner associations, and CAN’s local partners: —–Nasamat Irbid Cooperative Society

–Mayyas Foundation for Modern Agricultural Systems

–Arab Experts Foundation for Training.

The FGD focused on:

Presenting the results of the previous workshop and the preliminary map of areas affected by climate risks in Irbid.

Discussing and jointly analyzing the priorities of the areas previously identified by the participants.

Adopting an updated list of sites nominated for field assessment and future intervention.

Following the discussion, the project team and participants conducted a field visit to several areas nominated as “hotspots” to verify the on-site reality and compare field data with the discussion outcomes. The visit witnessed exceptional interaction from the attendees, with the local community providing valuable feedback to guide intervention choices more accurately.

The “Jahez” project aims to enhance the capacity of local communities in Irbid and Ramtha to adapt to climate change risks through Nature-based Solutions (NbS), community involvement in decision-making, and building effective partnerships with local entities.
