“Jahez” Project Workshop on Validating Climate-Vulnerable Hotspots in Irbid “Jahez” Project

A pivotal workshop was held today, 10 December 2025, in Irbid as part of the “Jahez” project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and implemented under the leadership of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), in partnership with the UK Met Office and the Climate Action Network (CAN).

The workshop was opened by Dr. Ahmed Masoud, representing IWMI, who emphasized the project’s crucial role in enhancing the climate resilience of communities most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Engineer Doa’a Al-Dirbani – CEO of the Climate Action Network, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors, and Project Manager – provided an overview of the project. This was followed by a presentation of the scientific and participatory methodology used to identify climate-vulnerable hotspots. This methodology was based on field evidence, results from technical assessments, and active involvement of the local community.

During the workshop, the final selected site for implementing nature-based solutions interventions within the jurisdiction of Greater Irbid Municipality was presented. This site was chosen based on a precise and transparent evaluation process encompassing scientific, technical, social, and field aspects.

The workshop also discussed the next steps in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders – including government entities, civil society organizations, and representatives of the local community – in preparation for moving to the phase of designing and implementing nature-based solutions and disaster risk reduction activities.

This successful workshop reaffirms the commitment of the “Jahez” project to a scientific and participatory approach in building community resilience to climate change.

In conclusion, the Climate Action Network extends its sincere gratitude to all partners and participants for their presence and valuable contributions.

A special thanks is extended to Irbid Governorate, Greater Irbid Municipality, and our local partners – Nsimat Irbid Cooperative Association, Mias Foundation for Modern Agricultural Systems, and the Arab Experts Foundation for Training – for their dedicated efforts in overcoming challenges and for their leading collaborative role in advancing climate action in Jordan.
