Climate Action Network Jordan (CAN)
Doa’a Lutfi Al-Derbani is the executive director of the Climate Action Network Jordan. She earned a master’s degree in diplomatic studies from the University of Jordan, where her studies focused on environmental diplomacy, international relations and climate diplomacy. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from the same university, specializing in land, water and the environment.
With over 11 years of experience in environmental and climate action, Doa’a has led numerous initiatives and programs aimed at achieving sustainability and addressing climate challenges. She has demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and reporting, managing environmental impacts of climate change, and empowering local communities through projects and activities. Additionally, Doa’a has successfully organized global and national conferences in collaboration with government entities, international organizations and civil society institutions.
She served as Programs Manager at the ECO-Values Foundation for Sustainable Development, where she implemented impactful projects, such as raising awareness and enhancing rural women’s capacities to adopt water conservation practices in the Jordan Valley and leading the Women in Climate Action initiative. Her career in environmental work began at the Jordanian Ministry of Environment, where she oversaw key projects, including managing Jordan’s second State of the Environment Report, monitoring water and air quality, implementing the Institutional Support Project for Short-Lived Climate Pollutants, and advancing the Readiness Support Program for the Green Climate Fund.
In addition, she worked as the National Coordinator in Jordan for the National Organizing Committee of the Ninth Global Land Forum, collaborating with the Seeds Foundation, the Global Land Alliance, and the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture. Doaa also held the role of Programs Manager at the Union for Environmental Associations in Jordan, where she led various initiatives, including a project aimed at empowering civil society organizations to monitor public policies at both local and national levels and another focused on strengthening the capacities of the union’s member associations.
Doaa has represented Jordan in various international, regional, and national forums. Recently, she launched the “AL MUNTHER AL MONAKHI” initiative targeting children, women, and youth—groups most affected by and influential in driving change in society. This initiative was launched on the first day of the COP 29 Climate Conference to be a global model for building partnerships and sharing knowledge across several countries to raise community awareness in combating the climate crisis. It showcases opportunity space scenarios and resilient climate pathways from the present to 2100.
Additionally, Doaa is an internationally certified trainer, holding a British international accreditation from BKI International University, she is also a certified trainer in green entrepreneurship.
