Climate Action Network Jordan (CAN)
Climate Action Network Jordan (CAN) at Cop 29
As part of CAN Jordan’s commitment to strengthening resilience, the organization has launched the Al-MUNTHER Al-MONAKHI initiative, led by Ms. Doa’a Al Derabani, CEO of CAN Jordan. This initiative introduces an innovative model for early warning systems and climate adaptation and climate resilience pathways extending to 2100.
This initiative places a strong emphasis on educating and empowering communities about climate risks, with a particular focus on nature-based solutions and gender-responsive strategies. By engaging women, youth, and children, the most vulnerable yet influential groups, the initiative fosters inclusive climate action, ensuring equitable access to knowledge and resources.
At the core of this initiative is Al-Munther, a symbolic three-year-old child representing future generations and the urgent need for proactive climate solutions. Through AI-driven tools, multimedia storytelling, and interactive learning, the project equips communities with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement sustainable, nature-based solutions in their local contexts.
The initiative was launched at COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, where it garnered international recognition and interest due to its scalable approach. The Jordanian Ministry of Environment, as the UNFCCC focal point, supported the initiative by facilitating the participation of the initiative team at COP 29. Additionally, the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture supported the initiative by issuing an endorsement letter, emphasizing the importance of raising community awareness to combat climate change. With the support of both Ministries, the initiative is now being rolled out nationally, strengthening local capacities and enhancing resilience against the escalating climate crisis.
