Successful Conclusion of Women’s Training Program on Climate Change and Urban Agriculture

Amman, August 28, 2024 – A one-month training program aimed at empowering women in households has successfully concluded with a ceremony held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Century Park Hotel. The training was part of the “Green Rooftops: A Path to Equitable Urban Resilience in Amman” project, focusing on critical topics such as climate change, urban agriculture, sustainable development, and the implementation of green rooftops.

Throughout the month, participants engaged in a series of educational sessions and hands-on activities designed to equip them with sustainable techniques that enhance air quality, provide fresh produce, and bolster urban resilience. The initiative sought to empower women to play an active role in addressing environmental challenges within their communities.

The concluding ceremony featured a focus group discussion led by Eng. Elham Al-Shurafat, during which participants reflected on their experiences, shared lessons learned, and discussed the significance of decision-making in green and urban agriculture. The session also highlighted the pivotal roles women play in climate mitigation, their contributions to greening efforts, and their involvement in shaping comprehensive climate action plans for the city of Amman.

This training initiative was made possible through the support of the Samim project, financed by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented by Lab’ess. The project received technical support from PULSE and collaborated with several partners, including Ecodev, Bidaya, TCSE, and the Jordan Youth Innovation Forum.

The success of this training program marks a significant step towards achieving sustainable urban development and empowering women to take the lead in climate action and environmental stewardship in Amman.
